Poker tournaments and poker rooms are often a major showcase of casinos. However, we do not always like to play poker in this atmosphere. Sometimes, we are just not in mood for the glitz and glamour of a top-class casino. However, one of the great things about poker is that, despite the game’s complexity, it can be played practically anywhere as long as you have a deck of cards and cash (unless you are playing strictly for fun, in which case not even the money is necessary). People can play poker in their homes, for instance.
One of the interesting trends in poker is to play the game in a bar and grill. Usually, this does not happen at just any bar and grill. Or, phrased more clearly, you do not just walk up to a bar and grill, sit down at an ordinary dining table with your friends, and start playing a poker game. An ordinary bar and grill may not have essentials, such as chips or sufficient table space. Furthermore, you may get in trouble for gambling in a place that does not have the necessary licenses, rules, etc.—or get the restaurant itself into trouble as well.
Fortunately, there are some restaurants that are specifically equipped to handle poker enthusiasts. Such establishments frequently have special poker tables, which you have to reserve ahead of time. Many also organize poker tournaments. The Internet is a useful tool for finding this kind of poker-friendly bar and grill in your area.
Playing poker in this “new” environment may not be as difficult as you think. Yes, there will be large numbers of people, and the venue can get very noisy and crowded. However, all this need not be a major impediment. After all, a large poker tournament hall is likely to have similar distractions. Even so, it would be sensible for you to take your own measures to ensure that game play is smooth and pleasant.
Try to establish a few ground rules about the types of food people can and should order. For instance, nobody should order food that comes in overly large dishes, since a severe lack of playing space will have a very real impact on game play. Perhaps, instead of several separate dishes, you could all order one large group dish, such as pizza or a large plate of chicken wings. Then again, the bar and grill might already have its own rules and restrictions about the types of food you can order if you are seated at a poker table. Poker tables are, after all, expensive and hard to clean, so it would be rather understandable for the establishment to do what it can to protect its investment.
Ground rules about drinking might also need to be laid down. True, a player can and should bear personal responsibility for playing a bit worse than usual because he or she has chosen to get tipsy. However, poker can be a rather high-stakes, stressful game, and a person unsatisfied with the outcome who is also drunk might lose his or her temper.
Keeping these considerations in mind, there is no reason why taking your poker game out of the casino and into the bar and grill should not be a great experience.
